I headed up to the Lych Gate Tavern, Wolverhampton for City Voices on 9th December, which Simon Fletcher has been hosting since its beginning in 2002.
It was Simon’s last evening hosting City Voices. He is moving onto new projects. There were lots of congratulations and shared memories. Marion Cockin, Jane Seabourne, Emma Purshouse and Jeff Phelps read on that first night in 2002 in the Clarendon Hotel, Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton when, much to everyone’s surprise, about sixty people turned up and had a great time.
Emma couldn’t be there on 9th December. Her place was taken by the amazing Kuli Kohli.
City Voices has been a stage for poetry and prose in Wolverhampton since 2002 giving a voice to new and established voices from across the region. Let’s hope we haven’t seen the last of it.
